When you watch your favourite movie or any movie for that matter, have you ever considered the behind the scenes that went into making it? That dramatic car chase that ended in a huge, explosive crash, how much of that is CGI and how much of it was real? These days, it’s hard to tell.
To showcase some of these real-life dangers that actors are faced with, we’ve compiled a list of shocking behind the scenes moments that you may not have heard of.
1. The Mummy
During filming, Brendan Fraser needed to shoot his part of the stunt where his character hangs from a noose. Steve Sommers, the director, thought that the noose should be tightened to match that of the stuntman. Unfortunately, Brendan passed out in the process.
While filming the feature, a mystery person drugged the cast and crew with PCP. A lot of people had a bad time, and everyone was rushed to Dartmouth General Hospital.
17-year-old Christopher Mintz-Plasse had to film a sex scene, and due to his age, his mother had to supervise the shoot. Can you imagine anything more awkward?
4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
To cope with an eight-hour makeup session that left Jim Carrey feeling trapped, producer Brian Grazer suggested that Carrey goes through a training session with a CIA operative trainer that focuses on how to endure and survive torture to help him cope with the makeup.
5. Mean Girls
Tina Fey’s mom was the inspiration behind one of Regina George’s quips. Her mom has a way of identifying people in ugly shirts and sweaters and telling them that she “loves their shirt”. Apparently, the fact that they’re wearing it means that they want the attention.
6. Toy Story
Woody Allen wasn’t the original choice to voice Buzz Lightyear, Billy Crystal was. He turned it down and ended up voicing MikeWazowski in Monster’s Inc.
Do you remember the scene on the plane? Well, Melissa McCarthy improvised almost everything. Her co-stars claim that her improv lines were great and that’s why she was allowed to let loose. She was as good as the casino slots online Brasil offers, and as entertaining too.
8. 10 Things I Hate About You
Cowriter Karen McCullah developed the title from a diary entry from her high school years, where she wrote a list titled “Things I Hate About Anthony” about her boyfriend at the time. They’re still really good friends.
9. Lion King
Disney was sued for the way they portrayed hyenas in the film. Researchers believed that villain-like behaviour would make it difficult to protect the species. As a result, Disney was sued for “defamation of character.”
It’s A Dangerous Job, Don’t You Think?
While some behind the scenes facts are funny and interesting, there’s no denying that some actors are faced with a choice of failing or beating the house when producing award-winning films. And in some cases failing or winning is life or death stuff.
