The Most Anticipated Movies Of 2021

2021 Movies

One of the most exciting things about starting a new year is the promise of new movies. 2021 is filled with them, owing in part to the fact that numerous productions and releases were delayed this year as a result of the COVID-19 global health crisis.

With a combination of the continuation of franchises and fresh, original productions, the movies just waiting to be released promise to make an excellent year for film and the mysterious art of filmmaking! Let’s take a look at some of the most anticipated ones below.

The Fast and Furious 9

Very rarely does a franchise make it to its ninth movie with such a strong following, but the world waits with bated breath to see the next instalment in The Fast and Furious franchise. These films have transformed from stories about street racers into stunning tales of a group of superhero-like characters. The story continues following Dominic, who is working with his family to face off against Jakob, an assassin working for their enemy. The trailer surprised us all with Han’s reappearance, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what more we can expect!

Release date: 28 May 2021.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

2021 marks the first time that Marvel will introduce moviegoers to Shang-Chi, a martial artist superhero. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be the 25th film released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stars Simu Liu as the title character. It has been almost five decades since Marvel introduced the world to Shang-Chi in the comic books, so we’d say it’s about time they gave him and his bright red jumpsuit their own movie.

Release date: 9 July 2021.

Black Widow

Natasha Romanoff, more commonly known as Black Widow, tragically met her end in Avengers: Endgame. However, she was a firm fan favourite and now it’s time for her first stand-alone film. It’s a big year for Marvel, who have told us that the title character’s story will pick up after she returns home following the events of Captain America: Civil War. The film will also welcome David Harbour and Florence Pugh to the Marvel universe for the first time.

Release date: 7 May 2021.

Space Jam: A New Legacy

It has been two and a half decades since the first Space Jam movie hit our screens and we all still want to play now right here. In A New Legacy, basketball giant LeBron James will star as himself. The film is produced by him, as well as Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler. The story is set to tell the tale of LeBron searching for his son through the Warner Bros catalogue – with his Looney Toons gang in tow. Viewers can expect cameos from the likes of NBA and WNBA legends such as Chris Paul, Diana Taurasi and Klay Thompson.

Release date: 16 July 2021.

Dune

Based on the 1965 novel of the same name, this sci-fi pic starts TimotheeChalamet, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac. It follows the story of Paul Artreides, whose family is in charge of the planet Arrakis. Arrakis is known for producing spice, a substance that is integral to space exploration and travel.
