As the Streaming Wars continue between platforms like Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and Netflix, the latter has made the most of the global lockdown and has been producing content faster than any movies have ever been made before.
Netflix has now promised its audiences new movies every single week. These movies are set to feature some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and promise to deliver cinema-quality entertainment right to the homes of millions across the globe.
Most recently, Netflix released some footage from the highly anticipated film Red Notice. The movie stars three powerful leads, namely Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and The Rock. If grabbing the attention of audiences worldwide was its goal for 2021, then the streaming giant is well on track.
The sheer number of A-list actors who have signed on to Netflix films set to release this year is jaw dropping and includes the likes of Chris Evans, Meryl Streep, Zendaya, Denzel Washington and Jonah Hill, to name a few.
Let’s get back to Red Notice. There isn’t much information available about the movie just yet, but we do know that it sees The Rock reuniting with Rawson Marshall Thurber, the same director who worked on Skyscraper and Central Intelligence. However, this particular film seems to have more a comedic edge to it, thanks in part to Ryan Reynolds’ signature brand of comedy.
As far as Netflix’s available information on the film goes, its synopsis simply states that “an Interpol-issued Red Notice is a global alert to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted. But when a daring heist brings together the FBI’s top profiler (The Rock) and two rival criminals (Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds), there is no telling what will happen.”
The cast itself promises to bring something special to our home screens for sure. The small bit of footage that has been released promises to show us Ryan Reynolds’ beloved devil-may-care attitude, Gal Gadot’s unrivalled sass and The Rock being – well, just The Rock, no training required. There is no one quite like him.
Other Netflix projects gracing our screens throughout the rest of this year includes the highly anticipatedMalcom & Marie starring Hollywood’s current sweetheart Zendaya, along with John David Washington. Joining this release slated for early February is The Woman in the Window, starring Amy Adams and the final instalments in rom comfaithful’sThe Kissing Booth 3 and To All the Boys: Always and Forever.
The filming of Red Notice was delayed and rescheduled several times as it has been planned to shoot in Italy, but production had to be halted due to the country’s COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, on 14 September 2020, filming was able to resume.
With a budget of between $160 million and $200 million, this is the most expensive movie ever made in Netflix history. That’s the kind of money not even online betting can bring in! However, the release date for the film has yet to be finalised but we are sure that fans of the filmmakers and cast are hoping that it will start streaming sooner rather than later.
